Registration

All candidates looking for qualified social care work must register with the General Social Care Council. This is a new requirement by the British government and you will not be able to work as qualified social care worker in the UK if you are not registered. You will need to submit your registration before applying for a qualified social care position.

We can offer assistance with you registration should you require. It is now easier for those of you with the following GSCC recognised qualifications to register.

Qualifications from Portugal:

You can apply for registration as a social worker if you hold one of the following qualifications:

• the Licenciatura em Service Social or
• the Licenciatura em Politica Social awarded by the Instituto Superior de Ciencias Sociais e Politicas, da Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa;

Qualifications from Spain:

You can apply for registration as a social worker if you hold the following qualification:

• the Diplomado en Trabajo Social;

Important note regarding paying the fee to the GSCC for registration .

The GSCC do not accept international bank transfers. Unless you have a UK bank account from which you can transfer the funds please read the instructions below.

When you are applying for registration you should go to your own bank and ask for a cheque to be raised for 155 GBP. Your bank will undoubtedly make a charge for this and possibly tell you that the GSCC will also incur charges. Do not worry about the charges incurred by the GSCC because this is already covered in the 155GBP charged by them to register someone. You should put your name and address on the back of the cheque and include with the forms that you submit for your application to register.
